The Mixed Kiids are a rap group out of Philidelphia, Pa. Lost In Wonderland is their latest project. They’re a group with quite a few influences but with main ones are Mac Miller(the sounds reminds me a bit of Watching Movies With The Sound Off) and Flatbush Zombies. The music on the tape has a chill lo-fi sound built for stoners to vibe out too. You can hear some boom-bap elements on a track like “High Life”, while “No Sympathy” features more trap influenced production. Regardless, there’s overarching dark and shadowy tone that keeps the tracks cohesive. “Tribute” Ft Rex has one of my favorite instrumentals it has an ethereal haunted feel to it.
The MCs on the tape have decent flows and theirs often melodic female vocals/rhymes coming it makes for an easily listenable tape. The second half of the project tends to focus on different dynamics of a relationship and are typically where the best lyrics are found on the project. “Girl I Know” is an upbeat tune about lusting for a girl and pursuing it. “Spacy” Ft Reese Mane and Rex is an interesting track about knowing you have a good girl but not being at a place in your life where you’re going to do right by her. The Mixed Kiids ends things on a harder note, with “Maggot Brain” seemingly a track breaking someone down and getting them to check themselves. Ultimately, Lost In Wonderland has a raw amateurish quality to it but there is a charm and solid foundation here to build upon and create great music.
